I cannot say I will ever know when I have read the whole thing. I just pick it up and start reading. Often times I am doing word studies so I go to the concordance and look up the occurence of words that interest me, and usually read from that point on. There are several books and chapters I enjoy reading more than others. I think about parts that I have not read and start reading in them. I am all over the place. That may be good, it may be bad I don't know it is just how I operate. Good question by the way. Take care and God Bless you in Jesus Holy Name, amen

I have studied the Bible much like you, hearthammer. I have also studied books at a time and have read the Bible through many years ago. I have been thinking of reading it through again...perhaps with a little in depth study as I go. I currently seem to study topics that I am introduced to in discussion here on ccf...usually when I am challenged. It seems to motivate me. God bless!

I have read it from beginning to end several times... and parts of it, I have read and studied through many times.... I dont believe it is a requirement to read the entire bible from beginning to end, but I enjoyed my time simply reading what God thought important enough to say to me...:-) One of the main reasons I read it all the way through, was because a person at work named "Dudley", made a statement at work that his name was a "bible name", I responded to his claim that he was incorrect, that the name dudley, was not found anywhere in the bible, to which he responded, "it is found on the lutheran side", and "any way, you have not read the whole bible so you cant know if its there",... I was disappointed with myself that I could not say that I had indeed read the whole thing through from beginning to end, so I immeditely set about to accomplish that so I would never be caught in that position again..:-).... It is a very interesting read.....try it....maybe for the very first time....and may God bless your time as you listen to him....:-)...

PS.... I especially like to listen to the bible as it is read.... I do this whenever I am on the treadmill.... It helps me to redeem the time....I can exercise, and listen to God speak at the same time... both physical exercise that profiteth a little, and spiritual food that strengthens the soul....I am so blessed....

HOW TO READ YOUR BIBLE (http://www.kjv-asia.com/read_your_bible_.htm)

READ IT THROUGH
by Amos Wells

I supposed I knew the Bible,
reading piecemeal, hit or miss,
Now a bit of John or Matthew,
Now a snatch of Genesis;
Certain chapters of Isaiah
certain Psalms (the twenty-third),
Twelfth of Romans, First of Proverbs,
yet I thought I knew the word.
But I found a thorough reading
was a different thing to do,
And the way was unfamiliar
when I read the Bible through

You who like to play at Bible,
Dip and dabble here and there
Just before you kneel a-weary,
and yawn out a hurried prayer;
You who treat the (crown of writing)
as you treat no other book -
Just a paragraph disjointed,
Just a crude, impatient look -
Try a worthier procedure,
try a broad and steady view,
You will kneel in very rapture
When You Read The Bible Through.

I tried reading it the whole way through, but trapped myself when trying to slog through Deuteronomy one day after the other (not to say that there are not God-given lessons to be learnt in it.) I've now read the whole bible in bits and pieces, so for people planning to read it from beginning and end perhaps you may want to read a bit of the OT and then a bit of the NT?

i lost count 20 years ago on how many times i read the Bible through. i don't think that you can get a complete understanding of things unless you know what God has said and what has transpired in the past. if anything we should at least read the New Testament all the way through many times, over, and over, don't stop! because that is really relevant to us...God bless

I read the bible through three to four times a year. Some go golfing or fishing, however I love reading the Word! I think I'm addicted

I follow a reading plan with my church that quite a few churches follow, its called S.O.A.P. We usually read a chapter from the old testament and a chapter from the new testament each day but it varies. Then we isolate a passage or verse we believe the holy spirit is speaking to us about and write out the scripture verse (S = scripture) then write an observation about it (O = observation) then write an application to our daily life (A = application) and finally finish with a written prayer concerning it (P = prayer). Obviously you have to be committed to do this everyday, some just follow the reading plan, others too but they do soap whenever the spirit moves them to or a few times a week, but the main thing is our whole church are on the same page when our pastor preaches on Sundays as around 90% of his sermons will come from his own soap readings. By doing this we go through the New testament once every year and the old testament once every 2 years and get 'washed' in the word!!!

I have read it more then once and I am still reading it. My ex once told me, he read it once when he was 19 and didn't need to read it again. He was 29 when he told me this. But I don't think you should just read it once, but over and over. This is your Fathers book.

I never read it for pleasure, but I do a few readings for study. Mostly what is reccommended by BCM to read, I will read after the meetings every Thursday, but other than what is instructed, I don't read much. I have found select verses that I like, and memorized, but I don't memorize whole chapters. I do read them though.

Umm, HOW?? I don't know anyone who has read it from beginning to end, other than my pastor at church... Are you studying to be a pastor or priest?

I've heard of the SOAP plan. My BCM uses it. But of course when I first read your post, I thought, Snakes on a plane... I noticed the acronym. But yes, the Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer is followed by a lot of established churches.

First I would like to say I thank God for giving me a love for His Holy Word. I thank God for His Word, that we have it to teach and guide us, to instruct us in day to day living..When I think back on the years before God called me in the early years, how in this world did I live without it? How?

POORLY, LIVING A DEFEATED CHRISTIAN LIFE

I think that about sums it up

My people perish from lack of knowledge

knowledge of what?

God's Word

I have read the entire Bible from cover to cover and read it many times just sitting down and studying and meditating on it, but once cover to cover and began again in January . I am shamed to say I should have read it thru more than once , but it seemed I always needed certain scriptures each day , so that is how I read it.Wht ministered to my heart's need at that time.Anyway I pray that before the Lord takes me home I can read it thru many many times because I do love His Word so.

God bless

Gods word will always abide .

we will always be learning from it eternaly.

so today is the rest of your life that never will end .
and you to will never learn it all.
so one should start reading it right away.

I am determined to read it all the way through from beginning to end for the first time. I am in Psalms now...

To help me, I got the Bible on CD and am listening while I read. That allows me to take some notes as I go and I remember so much better that way.

I tried to read it all the way thru about 3 or 4 times. I never got past Exodus. This time, I've started with the new test and am in John. Someone told me I should start with the new test since it is smaller. I have a very easy to read bible, so at times I feel like I'm reading a story. Is this wrong?? This is God's word, and I feel like everytime I read it, I should get spritural enlightenment, but there are times that it's almost like I'm reading history. I am one of those people who puts themsevles in the book they are reading, so I'm one of the disciples, following Jesus. I don't know, I don't want to get caught up in the stories of the bible and not learn. Then again, I am being taught at church and with the programs I watch on TBN.

I have read through the Bible a few times, although there are parts that I've read far more often than other parts. I used to have CD's of the New Testament and I would listen to them in my car on my hour long commute every day for two years. I don't know how many times I "listened" my way through the New Testament. I've only read the whole Old Testament twice. I've read Geneses and Exodus many times. I think I've probably read the gospels more than any other books as an adult, and my favorite is John. I could read it over and over again and never get tired of it. Today I started reading Luke. The Lord put all four of the gospels there for a reason, so I feel like I need to get myself more familiarized with the others, particulary Mark and Luke, because when it's not John, I'm almost always in Matthew.

My husband likes to read the profits of the Old Testament and then turn to the New Testament and see how everything ties together. I like it when he shares his thoughts with me. Sometimes I just pray to the Lord to let me open to the place he wants me to read, then I just open the Bible and start reading. Usually within a few chapters I find some certain tidbit that I know He is meaning for me to ponder that moment.

1). hmmm.. most Christian books only repeat what Jesus said anyways and it makes a quick buck, sometimes VERY big. Thus, the God vs Money thing..right?
2). I personally KNOW of a blood bought Christian woman that had ALL the teachings of one of the most popular Christian writers and still committed Suicide!
3). If the book is so good, why are there Christian couples still divorcing?! Wouldn't you think that such a book should deter this??

What I did to read the whole Bibleis cut the books into five sections. I started in Genesis, 1 Samuel, Psalms, Matthew, and Acts. I read through Matthew and Psalms over and over again as I read the others one chapter at a time until I got back around. It took about 4 months and I'm on my second time through. There is so much I read through that I didn't understand at first.

not really, but since I bought the whole entire bible on cd, yes, I have listened to the whoel entire thing, from beginning to end, and I still listen because you do not get the whole entire message in just one lump sum, it takes time.

I feel the same way, the more I am listening to the Word, the more I understand. I believe it has opened my eyes even more, just by listening, I fall asleep with it as well, God is my daddy, even though I done some terrible things in my life, God is still my daddy, and now that I have his Word, I will not let it go, no matter how much it hurts my flesh, God is still my daddy, and his Word will always remain true. te me, by listening to his word, I just imagine that it is him speaking to me, and chastening me, while learning that I need to obey his every command, God is still my daddy, in Jesus' name. Amen.

When I was pregnant with my youngest son, I had the same dream over and over...even before I knew I was expecting. In our family, historically, that has always meant the woman was carrying a future preacher, so when my son was born, I read the bible to him each night, reading it cover to cover 3 times so far. Not much for 12 years, but we discuss what we read and take it in little bites.
