Still the Same Old Story

Stillborne was I in my transgression,
A willing prisoner to my sin.
Delighting in my prison,
I sought the pleasures therin

No fear of God before me.
I traded Truth for a lie.
Rejecting Creator for the creation.
Earning the right to die.
But you said,

"Take my mercy, I'll show you grace
I'll bare your burdens, die in your place.
Take My righteousness, in it be clothed.
Trust my goodness, I've paid all you owed."

How now free of condemnation
Could I obey a flesh crucified?
Betraying the life to which I'm risen
I do the things I despise.

And my heart knows well to condemn me
What penance could ever make this right?
Though I'd scale Sinai to make You love me
Anything You ask I'll try.
But You say,

"Take my mercy, I've shown you grace.
I bore your burdens, died in you place.
Trust My righteousness in which you're clothed
Trust My goodness I've paid all you owed."

Grateful, I'd love to give You something,
An offering only I could bring.
To thank You and make You happy,
And so make You more pleased

And You'd think that I've learned nothing,
What could the thirsty give the spring?
What can I offer the over-flowing?
But to lie down and drink?

And take Your mercy, Bask in Your grace
Cast my burdens on the One who died in my place
Trust Your rightousness in which Im clothed.
Trust Your goodness who paid all that i owed.

Hello Semper,
I just read this poem and wondered if you had put music to it? If so, could I receive a copy (music or audio) of it? This would make a beautiful song to sing at church as a special.

Thanks,

It never ceases to amaze me, how my Father, allows His answers to be seen, for questions we have, in just the click of a mouse!
Thank you- greg.cross

WOW! How beautifully you've communicated God's wondrous grace. The last two stanaza's have really made me think. Its not that I didn't already know the truth of what they are saying....but I didn't really KNOW the truth of what they are saying.

Amazing Grace!!!

Semper, That is beautiful. I thought the same as pdad it should be in song. I to would like a copy if I can. What really stood out to me was What could the thirsty give the spring? What can I offer the over flowing? But to lie down and drink? The Living Water flows continually for us who thirst and need to be quenched. God Bless You Brother.

Semper, I needed to think on God's grace again tonight and this poem came to my mind, so I came looking for it. I can not tell you how God has used these words to remind me, again, of His Amazing Grace. "What can I offer the over-flowing, but to lie down and drink?" It overwhelms me when I truly let that grace get a hold of me.

Thanks for letting the Lord speak through your words.

God bless you!

Hey Semper,

It seemed to me to be time to bump this up again. It is so appropriate for many of the discussions going on at this time. I hope that many new people read this and are blessed as I have been. God bless!
