I go to a Public school, I guess it's okay although I disagree with Evolution...it's tried my belief in God and the creation and I've had many questions about it. Scientists make it look so real and true even when it's not. I think any christian school other than my church's school is the best. :)
(I've been to the christian school in my church one year and wanted to be out the next...but that's a church affiliated school...)

hey
i used to go to a christian private skool. but this next skool year im getting home skooled. i think the best form of skooling is probably christian skool. cuz u dont have some of the pressures that christian kids at public skool have to face. but i guess it also depends on what christian skool u go to cuz some of them arent as good as others

I go to a public school and faced the same thing. They are very one sided in the science department. They refuse to except creation science has something with facts and evidence. Also the revisonous history is killer. We have to know the information for tests and whether you believe it or not, its stuck in your brain. Tis a pity. I have gone to many seminars and classes to counter what they teach, so I am thankful for that. I keep an open mind and take every bit of info, test it, and try my best to discern whether its truth or false. I'll be glad once i'm out. We are called to be lights in the world, but I don't think we should throw those who can't defend themselves into the world to be twisted. God bless.

I go to a public school. I've been going to one all my life and I really enjoy it. I agree that there are more temptations but that is what, I believe, makes my faith stronger. I do keep an open mind about what I hear and see, even if I don't always agree with it. In my opinion, public schools help you when you are ready to go out into the real world. A lot of what goes on and what is said in the halls is what goes on in Life and the world itself. But, like I said, this is just my opinion. Now I feel like I should put a verse but I can't think of one so I'm just going to say this.........

I go to a public school. I think the public school system is worst, b/c it has such a high level of threats. Especially where I attend school. Being only a sophomore, I've more to endure than many ahead of me and would clearly enjoy the private Christian school only minutes from my home. I've many friends that attend the school and love it. I really wish I could attend a safe private Christian environment school.

I go to public school. I agree with it and I think its good to go to public school because it offers a chance to stand up for your faith in a public enviroment and thats why I think a public school is best

I go to a public scool and I dislike the teachers and students there, but I try to get along. I agree that public school gets you ready for the rough and tumbles of life. But me, personally, I think that I have enough to go through with me being diagnosed with endometriosis(where the lining of the uterus grows outside of the uterus) and going through a recent tonsillectomy(which isn't pleasant-the only solid food I've eaten today is half of a grilled cheese sandwich and a banana)

Anyways, I still believe that I'm blessed, even though satan has given me a few hard knocks.

i go to a public school and yeah i actually think its a good thing. i'll admit it is a test on your faith and beliefs, but that is a good thing. its like; refining gold through a fire. i used to go a a christian school, but i think i prefer the school i go to now. also, it gives you more of a chance to reach out to non-believers. i think i much prefer this school.

I do independent studies. I really like it, cause it works for me. I can't really say that I think one form is better than the other. Different people have different needs. what works for me may not work for other people. i'm not very social, yet i do like to be around a few people,so independent studies works for me.

I go to a public school, but just this last year, I was homeschooled. I didn't really like home schooling because you couldn't meet anyone new and you weren't really helped when you needed help. Of course we weren't apart of a homeschooling group, but still, I think public school is the absoulute best!!

I go to a Christian school. It's okay, but God isn't mentioned except on assemblies (a thank God for the day prayer) and Christian studies (one lesson a week.) I've got some friends who have changed schools from mine to a public/state school and they say God is mentioned heaps more there.

I don't agree with my school because the teachers say they are Christians and then swear their heads off at us. Also, the principal and other teachers think that our school is "different" somehow and doesn't have any problems or sin in it (cough, cough.)

I'd like to go to a state school I think. It'd be a good test on my faith. But Mum and Dad reckon that they are terrible places - especially for senior.

P.S : Is anybody else here an Aussie?

I go to a public school (i went to a christian school once a long time ago)
Personally i don't have any problem with it. I can see where you guys are coming from with the temptation thing, but I think you will be tempted anywhere. Also, according to my parents (who have both taught for a number of years in both public schools and christian schools) christian schools are just as bad, in someways worse than public schools. The reason being that often kids who have been expelled from other schools go there as a last resort. Also, I mean just cause someones parents are christians and/or send you to a christian school doesnt automatically mean that you're a christian, believe in christ and/or respect your teachers and dont do drugs, etc.

Ok, so that was fairly opinionated. I agree with you guys on the evolution stuff though. My dad's a science teacher, and I wonder why we can't learn both about the theory of evolution and creation. I mean neither of them have (or probably ever will be) proved, like most of science. I wish we could be given an unbiased, open view of the world from school.

i go to a public high school. and i agree with what's been said. sure, you have the temptations, but that's life. and it makes you stronger. i've gone to a private christian school and have been homeschooled, and i think that public school is the best option. you get the social stuff, and i enjoy being able to defend my faith; have it put to the test.

I agree with you Courtney, its always good to be tested on defending your faith. it always has made me stronger. And being homeschooled does have you a bit sheltered.. but some ways its for the best. Example.. i dont want my little 8 yr old sister learning about inapropriate things at a young age.. in school. I know that its not always the case.. becuase not all public schools are like that.. but a vast majority are.

But hopefully there are some smary cookies like you Courtney, that are willing to make a stand and show who you Trust and Believe in

God bless you

I'm homeschooled and definetly think that is the best way. I do play football at the public high scool so I have to take the standerdized tests, but that is no big deal. Most of my friends go to school and have to face persecution from both their friends & teachers. While it does stregnthen the faith of some of them, I would say as a whole it does more harm than good. As far as Christian schools go the only Christian school in our leauge had by far the worst reputation of any of the schools. Probably half of those kids were real jerks.
As for homeschool as I mentioned earlier, I think it is by far the best. But I have also seen kids that were too sheltered and had absolute zero social skills. That is the exception not the rule, though.
Anyway, thats my opinion.

Lil Bit: I can understand your frustration. But try and see it this way: If you put all Christians in the same environment, the same community and the same school, how will more people be saved? Use your position to serve God, and be lucky that you get to experience more levels of life. :-)

... unfortunately. Well, I like it a lot. As a matter of fact, I love it. I started the school this semester, before that I went to a public school. Well, sure, it's comfortable and safe to be among other Christians at school. Nobody makes fun of your faith and you don't have to defend yourself. At the same time, Jesus didn't tell us to spread the gospel to people who already believe. We are told to go to people who don't know Jesus, to tell them about Him. You see a candle more clearly in the dark than in a bright room, don't you? I feel blessed for every chance I get to talk to a person on the wrong path about Jesus. Only then, The Holy Spirit is working through me as planned.

Well I went to a private/Christian school for a year. Then I went to a public school for 3 years. Now I'm being home schooled for my 6th year in a row.

I definitely prefer homeschooling because I have very smart parents :) No seriously, my parents "sheltered" me just enough to form my values and stuff which I think kept me from going wild and staying religious.

Just my opinion. My parents wanted to send me to a Christian school, but there aren't any close enough to us.

I used to go to a Christian School, now I go to public high school in town, I much preferred the Christian School, it was much smaller with a more loving atmosphere. And I loved that it was Christian. The public school teachers aren't bad, though some I butt heads with over our beliefs, but nothing too big. If I could go to a Christian High School I would but right now i'm stuck in a public one and I might as well make the most of it

Hang in there. Spend freetime studying up in God's word and build yourself up. The world can attack your views and without a foundation, christians can crumble and fall to the world. Stand strong.

I wouldn't say I agree with all the things they say (evolution, global warming, ect. -.-)
But it a major mission ground.
I am (usualy, lol) happy to go to it.

It's not that I have anything agianst private Christian schools, no I think they are great, but there just seems to be more of a percentage of non-Christians you can reach at the public/non-Christian schools.

I'm homeschooled, but went to public school for K-3rd grade.

Of course I agree with it. While I may not always enjoy it, homeschooling is probably the most biblically-based form of education. Is it the best? I don't know. I think that depends on your situation and your learning style.

I tried a christian school last year but it was a s bad as a public school. There was only 14 kids in my class of four diff grades and by the end of the school year everyone had dated everyone.

I would say christian schools would be better because no one will tease you and you will not be scared to say what you think. I think it would be a good idea. Also people would probly be more healthy becasue they would not smoke and the teachers will not be that stressed because you will not swear or do anything bad to them.

wow well i went to a public high school and i loved it! I never had a desire to go to a christian school and was very bitter towards the idea of a christian school becuase i felt that i would not be able to deal with the hypocracy of a christian school. I loved public school becuase i got to be a light to so many hurting people and i feel that God really used me in peoples lives. I think i got to experience many different situations and got to understand myself better and what i stood for. so i am proudly a product of the public school system and have never drank had sex or done drugs. It wasn't easy but God put me in a position to speak into peoples lives. I now attend a christian college that i was not all to happy to attend at first but i quickly realized that college is very different than high school and while my college is very liberal i am learning that not all people who go to christian schools are christians so God is growing me and helping me to once again reach out to a hurting and hungry world!

i feel God is leading me to, as andychaos said they were a light to so many hurting ppl. i'm heading to high school and have been praying about it and i almost sure that God want's me back in public school, not just for me but for some hurt kid who is searching, and i also think it will help test my faith and to learn how to stand up for what i believe in.
now I'm not done praying bout this but i think i'll at least try it for a year or so after all i could always come back to homeschooling right?

Unfortunately I had to attend a public school because my parents couldn't afford to send me to private schools. However that was in the fifties when the doctrine of secular humanism was at it's infant stage of being introduced.
We could still read Bibles and there was no ACLU trying to get it out.

But I saw to it that my son went to a Christian school where he would not be indoctrinated with the religion of Secular Humanism which is what the public school system is guilty of doing.

And as a result my son got a masters in theology and is now working on his doctorate.

I look at my friends children who attended public schools and see how so many of them turned out.

Barely acknowleging the existance of God if that.
Non-Church going or if they do go it's to one of those quicky Masses on Saturday night just before they go out to drink and whatever else goes along with it all.

John Dewey who was the major force in building the public school system signed the Humanist Manifesto.

All of you who send your children to public school should read the Humanist Manifesto and tell me if that is what you want your children to be taught.

The Preacherman
07-16-2007, 07:20 PM
I can understand that many parents just cant afford to send thier children to private schools and I can't blame them for it and feel sorry for thier children.
But for those who can and dont and claim to be Christian.
What is your motive ?

Dont you realize the ridicule they will go through ?

These children are not mature Christians who can endure persecution.

And the stress that will be put upon them can create medical problems for them also.

I've seen children who had all kinds of health issues and when they were taken out of the public school system and started attending private schools went on to better health and performance due to the lack of stress that one finds in a public school due not only to ridicule of thier faith but also the lack of control over the student body that is present in most public schools today.

Why would a loving parent want to subject a young child to that ?

I went to public school. I liked it a lot. Most of my teachers belonged to my church or were Christians. As long as there is a strong Christian foundation in the home, I think public school is great. I am a teacher at a public school. Many of my students are atheists. I think that is one of the reasons God made it possible for me to be a teacher so I could be a possible positive influence on them. I pray to God that I represent Jesus well. All of the teachers at my school are Christians, which is pretty rare. This is great for the kids. Which is best -- I guess it depends on the situation. How strong is the family in the faith, who are the teachers and administrators, what are the other students like, etc.

As a kid, I experienced both public school and christian school. I went to public kindergarten, christian elementary, public junior high and high school, and public university.

I loved my small, close-knit christian school. There were fewer of us in the classes (often around ten), so we got more one-on-one attention from the teachers, who knew each of our individual personalities more than any teacher with 30 students ever could. Kids who needed extra help or attention got it, but all of us were held to the same high standards of good behavior. We were held accountable for our actions and taught that making excuses for our negative actions was irreponsible and ungodly. Every morning we said the pledge allegiance to the American flag, the pledge allegiance to the Christian flag, the pledge allegiance to the Bible, and we prayed. Once a week, the whole school had "chapel" where we would sing songs and listen to the principal preach a sermon for the children. Academically, the school was ahead of the public school. We studied all of the normal subjects, plus Bible. Bible was treated the same as other subjects in that we got a grade in it, which factored into our GPA. I remember studying for Bible tests. We had to memorize versus, too. We didn't have units on self esteem and how not to be prejudiced. Love your neighbor as yourself was the concept taught, and all those were encompassed by that. We were taught that there are absolute truths and there are lies. There is right and there is wrong.

There were many opportunities for accepting Jesus and the teachers were sincerely interested in our salvation, although they never forced it. I remember once a boy in my third grade class raised his hand and "told" on another girl because she had told him that she hadn't accepted Jesus into her heart yet. The teacher answered that it was a personal choice and that nobody can "force" somebody else into believing or accepting something.

Public school was not bad, either. It just didn't have that spiritual element. The teachers were so carefull not to upset anyone or say anything that might offend somebody's beleifs. In junior high, it seems like we focused a LOT on self esteem, more perhaps, then we did on academics. There were so many kids and the teachers were over worked. They barely had enough time to memorize the students' names, let alone get to know thier individal strengths and weaknesses. It was so easy to just slip through the cracks. If you didn't do your homework or if you were falling behind, the teachers might not even notice. Kids could get away with more without being noticed, since there just weren't enough adults to supervise everyone. If a kid didn't want to learn, they weren't going to.

In most cases, teachers avoided making statements about right and wrong. Once in eight grade, our English teacher asked the students to contribute to the writing of the class rules. I suggested "Do not swear or use cuss words." As a thirteen year old fresh from Christian school, it seemed like a reasonable and straight-forward rule to a me. The teacher, however, said that it was too negative and close-minded. How about, "Use positive language," she suggested.

That's the difference. In the public school, the primary issue is feeling. It comes before dicipline and it even comes before education. Feeling is more important than truth, so they teach that there is no truth and that the only turth is how one feels. They might as well have fed me rat poison.

The Christian school taught truth, even when it made you feel bad about yourself. When you misbehaved you got diciplined. When you did crumby on a test, you got a big red F staring you in the face. Most importantly of all, Jesus is the one and only truth. They freely declared that. I'm so thankful for those teachers. I look back now and see so much of what I didn't then.

I go to a public school
In a way, this has had a bad impact on my faith I have to say. People put me down a lot, and its hard to keep up with my Godly life and my school life (which also shows the fact that they are seperate!)
However, it does help in a way, because it makes me challenge my faith when people ask about it, and i have never denyed that I am Christian. I would love to be able to grow in my faith so that I can share with others at my school, but currently im not really in the position to be able to do that! Like Jesus said, never try and take the speck out of someone elses eye whilst theres a log in you own! (or something like that!) Thats my problem at the moment!
So yeh, for someone who is really confident in their faith then a public school is great. For someone who has a lot to go through on their walk with christ, a christian school might be better. However, overall I think it is better that everyone mixes and we get to spend more time with people who do not know christ.
God Bless

I go to a public school thats the only type I've ever gone to. I understand both the pros and cons of public school. But I know for me there are things that I have experienced that I would never been able to in a private school setting. Such as the wide range of cultures and beliefs at my school. I honestly think that because of this variety I have better learned how to talk about my faith and defend it when need be. But there are also pros to private school. I guess it's just a matter of what works best for you.

We are a homeschooling family. I have a son, he is 9 years old. He tried the public system... the bullying is very bad. We tried the Christian private school, and they let him 'go' because they couldn't meet his needs academically, so they said.... oh well... he came back to homeschooling and here... he will stay unless God tells me differently. Since, starting to homeschool, almost 3 years ago... God has blessed us (me) like showing me that it was the right thing to do. It was a huge leap of faith, and even still, my dad and his wife (not my mom) are totally opposed to it... and voice negativity at every opportunity (which, I try to keep that to a minimum, obviously!!!).

Homeschooling... saves getting beat up.
Homeschooling... we can teach Jesus.
Homeschooling... creation vs. evolution... we don't have to worry about what he is learning... because it is God inspired not a Board of Education mandate.

:-)
